New ferries will make life easier for residents

Dear Editor,

I am living on the Essequibo Coast, and cannot wait for the arrival of the two new ferries from China which will be deployed to the Essequibo water transport system. Since I heard that the two ferries are docked in neighbouring Trinidad Tobago, more and more, I am getting excited.

I was told that the ferries will arrive in Guyana following the completion of the Parika stelling on which workers are working feverishly to complete.

According to what I read, the stelling has to be specially built to facilitate the docking of the vessels since they are roll-on roll-off ferries.

These ferries will make life easier for most people from the islands of Wakenaam and Leguan and those from the Essequibo Coast. This is so because there will be increased economic activities, which will be fuelled by easier access to transportation of produce and other essential commodities from those areas to market places in other parts of the country.

It is good that after several years, we would now be able to get better, bigger, and more reliable and comfortable transportation services.

I am so excited that I would not miss the first ride on the new ferries when they commence operations, which are likely to happen before Christmas. They say good things come to those who wait. The people in this part of the country have waited a long time and indeed, the good things will arrive before Christmas.

Sincerely,

Francis Barry
